Birdmas Day 12: Better To Be Nice

And with final piece, I have officially finished my own Birdmas challenge! 🥳

I did this to make very clear, the meaning of my first piece, that it’s good to respect, that, regardless of who you are, we all matter. It’s good to be nice, have honour, and be kind to everyone, especially in this day and age (Unless they’ve done something unforgivable of course, but that’s not what I’m talking about). This was always meant to be a positive piece.

So, the first bird I drew, is helping one of my block birds, who fell off of the “tower” from before, and it broke it’s wing. The first bird is wrapping a bandage around it’s wing to help it.

Just to be nice to others in general because we all matter in this world… Should that really be an issue?

✨On an end note, I’d like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone for taking part with me!✨ If you’re still doing Birdmas, that’s fantastic, it’s open for all of December, so do take your time if you need to! I’ll be going to sleep now, (I mean, gosh, I need the sleep…) but I will be back with some free time to go through people’s posts.

This was completed using graphite and ink on A4 Bristol Board paper. Cheers for stopping by!

Birdmas Day 11: Feeling At Home

So I’m not proud of this one at all, it is meant to be simple to give me a break, but I did say I’d try to complete a piece, for the MeWe Gouache’s Group’s “At home” challenge, and this is it. A piece that reflects what I feel home is about – getting comfortable, and just enjoying a relaxing moment. Usually I have a few pens and or paper around me when I have time, haha.

The issue I had was, I have no idea where my set of gouache paints are!! I had a full set of designers gouache I got some years back, and they’re gone! All I managed to find were 3 colours, Sap Green, Brilliant Violet, and Burnt Umber, so I decided to do a mainly monotone fun piece, using the green and violet to make one sort of brown, and using the umber as the secondary brown.

Suffice to say, gouache is not really my medium, ESPECIALLY when painting/drawing stuff quick. That’s where I stick to my faithful pencils and inks. But it was nice to give it a go. Hope you all enjoy. Cheers, all!

This piece was completed using gouache on A4 paper.

Birdmas Day 10: Sky Swooping

Hello all. Many apologies, but I’m knackered again, and so, I can only afford to upload this now and go straight to sleep. Tomorrow morning/afternoon looks to be slightly busy as well, so I aim to do a simple entry in order to catch up on time with my “posts and comments” debt.

Anyway, I got some new pens today and wanted to try them for today’s piece. I have to say, I’m on the fence as to whether or not I like it. I’ll just put it here and say I gave it a go at least…

Birdmas Day 9: Bright And Standing

I managed to find a new inspiration in the form of grotesque but beautiful looking 19th century ceramic bird pieces done by London Pottery manufacturers, the Martin Brothers. I’ve never even heard of them before, but I’m glad someone let me know about those precious antiques they made, they’re right up my street!

Link to relevant Wikipedia Page is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Brothers

This entry of mine is really an “inspired by” piece, and therefore, although I consider this done in my original style, I’m slightly afraid to claim Copyright and say this is completely mine. I used dirty washes to compile the main form of the birds before overlaying Inktense on top. I also used bright colours for contrast.

Thanks again to everyone for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy this as usual. Cheers! 🥳

This was completed in ink and Inktense on A4 Bockingford Watercolour paper.

Birdmas Day 8: Raptorhood Art

This is the green version of “Griffinhood Art” and “Bristerhood Art” I wanted to complete! This time, it’s a dino bird hybrid inspired by prehistoric birds, but made up from imagination.

I’m happy I managed to fit this in, however, surprise surprise, I’m not 100% happy with the outcome, I think it’s either overcooked, or perhaps a bit deformed, but I HAD to commit to it, because starting all over again meant losing precious time.

Ah well, that’s the spirit of art challenges (in my opinion), you have to just accept mistakes and carry on, or you lag behind.

I am happy with the base concept though, so who knows? I may do this again, but more improved.

I do hope you all enjoy this one. Cheers! 🥳

Birdmas Day 7: Bird Of Grey

Alright everyone… I’m very sorry, but I’m so tired that I only have the energy to upload this, then go straight to sleep… I wish I had the time to look at others beautiful work and read all of your amazing messages, I suppose I can do that sometime tomorrow.

This also came out worse than expected, which is sad because I drew the details in liner pen and that took a long time. It looks better in physical form than it does scanned in… scanning it in makes this look cheap… but oh well. I’ll just call this a failed experiment, which is apt as this bird, whilst inspired by birds of prey, is actually one I drew from imagination.

Thanks to EVERYONE for stopping by, and to those doing the challenge, I really salute you all. I hope you enjoy this. Cheers! 🥳

Birdmas Day 6: Come Meditate With Me

Second Smashy piece! But I’m still tired. Ah well. Lack of sleep is my specialty. 😂 Sorry if I miss any messages! I’m all over the place at the moment with different things going on as well as this event being quite a success!

This came out worse than expected, but this is something that I feel I can relate to at the moment – the need to be peaceful and take a break. I hope everyone else sees peace in this entry. We could all use some time out to think.

So… Anyone is free to come meditate with me, oh… and to draw birds of course! Haha. I hope you enjoy. Cheers! 🥳

Birdmas Day 5: Chop Chop

Well… I’m tired, and I’m late! Hooray! Who wants to punch me first? Form a queue, people! 😂

This is my first ever “Smashy the Squirrel Mode” entry! It’s a simple concept this one, the chicken is running through smoke with it’s axe and shield and it’s chopping up wood as it runs. Random, but why not?

I wanted this to look better than it does, but this is Birdmas. A place where nothing should be taken too seriously. Punishment for mistakes simply don’t exist!

I really am knackered, so forgive me if replies are slow…. but gosh, I must thank everyone again, I didn’t know Birdmas would be this strong this year! 😄

Thanks to everyone for stopping by! Once again, I shall get to everyone else’s entries in the end. I hope you enjoy. Cheers! 🥳

Birdmas Day 4: Block Bird Tower

Today was much harder to time keep than I thought, sorry about that! I shall be with you all in the end however, I’m sure.

I must say a huge thank you to everyone again for participating. I wasn’t sure that anyone would participate if I’m being honest, so thank you.

For this piece, I was inspired by drawing a block/cube, then turning it into a bird. I thought it’d be fun to stack these block birds up and make something funny out of it, as I’m using this event to play around and have fun as much as possible. Expect there to be a mixed bag of ideas for this challenge.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by, I shall get to everyone else’s entries in the end. I hope you enjoy. Cheers! 🥳

Birdmas Day 3: Griffinhood Art

Phew, today has been very busy. Apologies for not keeping up, everyone. Tomorrow is also kind of busy, but I should be able to squeeze some time to come to all my blogs in the afternoon. I know I have some unseen posts outstanding…

Anyway, this piece is somewhat of a duplicate of a piece I did called “Bristerhood Art” back in Inktober 2018. It featured an imaginary bird in a similar background, but it was blue and purple instead of red and orange. I regret getting the proportions slightly wrong in this version, (specifically in the height and curvature of the neck) but this was rushed a bit because I was really running out of time.

Please bear with me everyone, you’re all doing such fantastic work! Thanks so much to all participants. Cheers! 🥳
