Day 31 Squirrel Smashing Night

My interpretation for the 31st and final word of Tritober 2020, ‘Tricks’. My squirrel using tricks to crawl up a bridge and enjoy a smashing night!

Squirrel hunt has officially ended. It’s time he enjoyed himself, had a bath, then went to bed. πŸ˜‚ πŸ‘ πŸΏ

I did it! I finished Inktober 2020! Firstly, I have to thankΒ @taunus spatzΒ from MeWe for allowing me permission to download and use a photo of a squirrel in a unique pose that I had planned for this piece. Thank you so much my friend!

Now, I’d say I think this is pretty nice to end on. There are mistakes, some of them are less forgivable than others, but other than that, I am satisfied with my knackered brain enough to say it’s ok. I hope you all feel the same.

This is loosely inspired by London Bridge, but the landscape itself is improvised. The squirrel in this image is enjoying one more night of adventure before he retires and finds pastures new. I really liked the word “smashing” to indicate a lively night, so I’ve decided to name the squirrel, “Smashy”!

So… from me and Smashy, thanks to everyone who stuck it out with me through these 31 brutal days… You’ve been amazing… and Happy Halloween! (To those who celebrate it of course!) πŸ˜„

This piece was drawn using black fine liners, a white ink pen, and Inktense on A4 paper. I do hope you enjoy!

Day 30 Owl’s Domain

My interpretation for the 30th word of Tritober 2020, ‘Owl’. A sinister looking owl perched upon a possessed mushroom.

QUESTION. Where is the squirrel today? πŸ˜‰

Another rush job I’m not entirely happy with… I admit I was lazy, but also didn’t have enough confidence due to low energy. I’m sad, as this was a good prompt, but by now, I’m having to admit that I’m running out of steam.

I wanted to make this spectacular, but I suppose I didn’t put in the work required to make it so, but I have to accept that.

With Tomorrows piece, I’m aiming for a big bang to end Inktober on as it is the very last set of prompts. It’s going to be special if I have anything to push myself towards – which I do. I just have to learn to plan and use my time wisely.

This piece was drawn using black fine liners and brush pens on A5 paper. I do hope you enjoy!

Day 29 Sky Drift

My interpretation for the 29th word of Tritober 2020, ‘Ponytail’. A long haired winged woman flying up in the sky.

QUESTION. Where is the squirrel today? πŸ˜‰

This one was a rush job as I lacked time and energy. I didn’t have much energy to even shade it, I just left most of it as line art.

What you see is what you get, there’s no real story here, other than I made the shoes exaggerated because that was the second prompt, and the Rapunzel like hair was my first inspiration for the piece.

Am I happy with this? Yes and no… I think this is alright for how low my energy is, but there is obviously things I would improve on too.

This piece was drawn using black fine liners on A5 paper. I do hope you enjoy!

Day 28 Gravelborne

My interpretation for the 28th word of Tritober 2020, ‘Gravel’. A gravel monster controlling gravel and stone to make it all rise in the sky.

QUESTION. Where is the squirrel today? πŸ˜‰

I’m torn on this one. The concept is the same as the description – to have a creature with gravel hide controlling gravel and rocks and making it rise and float in the air. On one hand, I like it, but on the other hand, I feel it may be overcooked. This creature is supposed to be levitating a chunk of gravel/stone in it’s left hand with some lightning effects, but I feel I may have overdone the details and it looks kind of confusing as a result.

I’ve saved my roughs as usual for this project, so if I were to revisit this piece, I have a bearing of where I went right to work from. That makes me happy at least.

Day 27 Undid Cowntray

My interpretation for the 27th word of Tritober 2020, ‘Country’. An undead country cowboy demon serenading an animal skull.

QUESTION. Where is the squirrel today? πŸ˜‰

So firstly, for those of you who are wondering why on earth the title is spelt the way it is, it’s basically pronounced “Undead Country”, but in a Country American accent. πŸ˜‚ πŸ‘

This entry is alright. I had some trouble in the beginning because I had too many ideas and not enough confidence, so it took some overthinking for me to even start drawing. I took inspiration from Halloween again because we’re heading that way now, so I might as well sneak in some monster stuff, and this day gave me a glorious opportunity.

Is it perfect? No… there are lots of mistakes, but otherwise, I’m satisfied with it as an Inktober 1 day sketch.

Day 26 Run From The Bunny

My interpretation for the 26th word of Tritober 2020, ‘Expanding’. A group of goblin like creatures running away from a huge expanding rabbit.

QUESTION. Where is the squirrel today? πŸ˜‰

Ok, so this is god awful because I just know that this will give some people nightmares. πŸ˜‚ Please forgive me, as this is the ONLY way I could combine the words “Expanding” and “Hide” together on my less than inspired, knackered brain.

So, the “Hide” part has a double meaning in this one. To Run and hide is one interpretation, but also the hide of an animal, hence the rabbit (hide) expanding.

…I know it’s still awful, but tough. Deal with it. πŸ˜‚

Tommorow’s word combo is looking better though, they fit like a hand in a glove, so hopefully I’ll do better with that entry.

This entry was drawn using fine liners on A5 paper. I do hope you enjoy!

Day 25 Paper Brethren

My interpretation for the 25th word of Tritober 2020, ‘Paper’. A pair of paper wolves.

QUESTION. Where is the squirrel today? πŸ˜‰

I was really worried about this one, however, I think it went better than expected overall. I wanted to draw a pair of wolves made of paper to symbolise how my spirit animal is the wolf. The pair being together was inspired by Inktober’s word “buddies”. It was quite hard to mesh the two combo words together, but this is the best I could have done to be honest. I don’t think there is anything more to say.

I’m not looking forward to tomorrow’s word pair either, but I’ll try my best in this final 6 days of the challenge.

This entry was drawn using many different inks on A5 paper. I do hope you enjoy!

Day 24 Hover Digger

My interpretation for the 24th word of Tritober 2020, ‘Mechanical’. A random hybrid of a digging machine crossed with a hovercraft.

QUESTION. Where is the squirrel today? πŸ˜‰

The combo of the words “Mechanical” and “Dig” could have worked SO well in the earlier days of Inktober, but as such, I wasn’t inspired by them today, so I did this.

It is what it is, really. I just drew a random design for something mechanical that can dig something, complete with demon driver and negative space colouring. It’s something easy for me to do as I’m running out of luck and tomorrow’s word combo is horrible, I’m really worried about it. I’ll try my best though.

This entry was drawn using Inktense, white ink, and a black brush pen on A5 paper. I do hope you enjoy!

Day 23 Terra Haul

My interpretation for the 23rd word of Tritober 2020, ‘Haul’. A land bird ripping through the page and clutching a gold nugget.

QUESTION. Where is the squirrel today? πŸ˜‰

I think I pulled through with this one by being persistent. I finished it way before uploading it here now, but I was lazy and have posted this almost last minute.

I now have a bad and careless attitude towards Inktober which I really need to fix. Part of me wishes it would have ended by now, but nonetheless, I tried my best. For this one, I chose the concept of a bird tearing away at a wall (to match Inktober’s “Rip”) whilst finding a gold nugget in the process.

The composition was the easiest part, the hardest part was having the patience to create the bird and make added details, as, aside from a small amount of reference, this bird is completely made up! I had to use my imagination here. Also, making a convincing enough ripped wall effect was quite difficult. It’s not perfect, but at this stage, I need to manage my time well, so faffing about that will do no good.

Day 22 The Crumbling Chef

My interpretation for the 22nd word of Tritober 2020, ‘Crumbling’. A monster chef regenerating from the crumbling “Day”.

QUESTION. Where is the squirrel today? πŸ˜‰

I think this is barely alright, perhaps a bit better than yesterday, but still nothing to brag about. It looks worse on photo than it looks on the paper which is bad, but there’s hardly anything I can do about that.

The concept of this was to have the day number crumbling away to build the body of a monster chef. I wanted a bit of graffiti inspiration there since I know ways to integrate graffiti lettering with a breaking away effect. Shout out to Lea Hartmann by the way, since she got one prompt confused with the word “Chef” which turned out to be an official Inktober prompt for day 22! πŸ˜‚

Again, I think I did ok, but there’s something that needs fixing, and I’m not sure what it is. Either way, I hope you enjoy.

This entry was drawn using black and coloured liners on A5 paper. I do hope you enjoy!
