Day 24: Topsy Horror

My interpretation for the 24th word of Inktober 2019, ‘Dizzy’. A scary looking clown doing an awkward balancing act.

I want to talk about this piece, but I’m tired as raw heck and running out of energy now. Please bear with me, if there are any mistakes.

I saw the word “Dizzy” and immediately thought of someone balancing on top of loads of different things, and how that feeling of motion could be tied to being dizzy… I don’t know, does that make sense? I hope it does…

Day 24 Dizzy Topsy Horror

Topsy Horror: Definitely not clowning around…

So, I took that a step further and drew a clown as the subject character. Not only are balancing acts common in the circus, but clowns can also double up as Halloween gimmicks too… hence why I thought this most appropriate.

…This prompt word wasn’t bad, but wasn’t at all good either.

This entry was drawn using a black fine liner and Faber Castell PITT pens on A5 paper. Once again, thanks so much for stopping by, everyone… you don’t know how much it means to me. If you read the way through, you especially deserve thanks and respect… so Cheers!

Day 23: Hunting Slab

My interpretation for the 23rd word of Inktober 2019, ‘Ancient’. A simulated ancient cave painting of some hunting plans.

And after all of my failings and suffering… I’m now FINALLY almost on track! Hooray! 😄

Day 23 Ancient Hunting Slab

Hunting Slab: Moooooo!!!

I was scared of taking a risk with this entry, because it was another loose and experimental one… but I did it for the good of my nearly non existent sanity. I knew that, for me, the word “Ancient” would require A choice between two ideas. Either:

A: A breathtakingly detailed piece that takes an overkill amount of time and effort than is allowed or…

B: A very simple “back to basics” doodle which wouldn’t look good, but would sacrifice less time (and less of my patience too).

There is no in-between, my word is bond. It’s either Parthenon greatness or pathetic cave painting. I chose option B.

I gained inspiration from a bit of cave painting history, and a tiny bit from the primitive style artist: Jean Michel Basquiat. The subject itself is about a plan to hunt some food. (Obviously it’s unreadable, but I just wanted the basic aesthetic of that). Is it something I’d hang on the wall before my head? Certainly not… but it’s something. Nothing more.

This was completed using many different inks on A5 paper. Thanks ever so much… and goodnight for now, everyone. I hope to come up with something better for the next prompt!

Day 22: Haunted Shelf

My interpretation for the 22nd word of Inktober 2019, ‘Ghost’. A ghost floating in front of an old bookshelf.

Hmm… I think I was expecting more of this, but then again, I’m not disappointed with this entry either – it’s pretty alright again. My aim was to use Inktense as a strong saturated base, for which to use diluted white ink on top to create the illusion of a ghost that you can see through.

Day 22 Ghost Haunted Shelf

Haunted Shelf: On second thought, perhaps I’ll watch Tv…

That’s where the bookshelf comes in, since there are many irregularly sized shapes and colours, the see-through “ghosting” effect would be more successful, coupled with the fact that things like libraries and posh haunted houses, both of which contain bookshelves, can be the perfect setting for a ghostly atmosphere.

I’d say where I went slightly wrong is with the overall opacity of the white ink. I just wish it was slightly more weaker than it is to get that convincing illusion.

I’ll add a side note, that I’m very thankful for at least having a DECENT AND RELEVANT prompt word!! Thank you!!!

This was completed using many different inks on A5 paper. Expecting more wacky unprofessionalism? You were…? Great! The tooth fairy doesn’t exist, you fools! There you go! 😂😜🤟

Day 21: Sepia Treasure

My interpretation for the 21st word of Inktober 2019, ‘Treasure’. An old vintage inspired drawing of some treasure.

I’m pleasantly surprised by how well this came out, this was supposed to be lazy and experimental, as I knew I’d not have done this too quickly anyway, so I just took my time to explore what I could do with it, and I quite like how this entry went.

Day 21 Treasure Sepia Treasure

Sepia Treasure: Arhargh me hearties!

Granted, I’d never hang this on a wall (I’d hang my own head on a wall before that!), but I think it’s pretty alright. The format of this was inspired by a mixture of old maps, and pirate’s treasure complete with pieces of eight, pearls, and a chest of course. As simple as it is, I do hope you enjoy this too.

This was completed using Inktense and a brown fine liner on A5 paper… Thank you to everyone who’s following along and bearing with me as I constantly tear and put down some awful prompt words (and my own artwork)!

Day 20: Footprint

My interpretation for the 20th word of Inktober 2019, ‘Tread’. A very large reptilian foot stomping the ground.

Day 20 Tread Footprint

Footprint: And that’s all there is!

…Yeesss, I know the name of this is just ridiculous! But who cares!? I couldn’t think of anything else! 😂😉

…And actually, the piece is even more ridiculous! But who cares!? Some of these flaming prompts are ridiculous!

…And also this text is ridiculous! But who cares!? It’s not like anyone will read this anyway! 😂

…If you have read it up to this point? Gosh, congratulations! Here! Have a sweetie! 🍬🤣

This was completed using a black POSCA brush pen and Faber Castell pit brush pens on A5 paper… but who cares!? 😂

Day 19: Slingshot Shogun

My interpretation for the 19th word of Inktober 2019, ‘Sling’. A shogun warrior aiming a slingshot.

I went a bit spontaneous with this one (and with the next entry) for two reasons… for one? Time. I haven’t ever got enough… and the second reason was to try and introduce a new freedom to myself to be more loose and expressive.

Day 19 Sling Slingshot Shogun

Sling Shogun: Aiming high!

There is a third reason specifically with this piece, and that’s because it’s fitting with the oriental subject here, and with oriental work, you often get free flowing dry marks done with a semi wet medium like a pen (back then it was just a brush and ink though).

I’ll leave it to my viewers to have an opinion on this, I’ll just say that I added humour to the “Sling” prompt, but the rest is up to interpretation.

This piece was drawn using a POSCA brush pen and red ink on A5 paper. Are you bored yet…? You lightweight! 😄

Day 18: I Am A Misfit

My interpretation for the 18th word of Inktober 2019, ‘Misfit’. A metaphor relating to how I feel about myself.

I’m well aware that my standards are slipping somewhat, but there’s just been too much going on to even justify it with this side project. Also, this word was just horrible. So in good ol’ Lazzy fashion, I decided to play with it a bit… I need some fun at least.

Day 18 Misfit I Am A Misfit

I Am A Misfit: Yes…yes I am!

I consider myself someone who doesn’t really fit in… it’s been a theme in my life really, and, whilst I won’t go into unnecessary detail with that, I will say that it hurt at first to learn that I’m a slight outcast… but I have learned to embrace it and make it my power now, so… I’m proud of it. 😉

If anyone else feels the same way as I’ve expressed here – take that inner outcast inside, and turn it into your strength!

I love graffiti and street art, and since it is known to be a medium of social misfits, I used it here for the base of this entry. The reds and yellows in this piece? It’s laziness, my friends… I’m short on brain power, and those colours were the first thing I could grab! 😂

I said before that quite a few people know me for my love of the wolf as a symbol… so why not draw a chubby woman (myself) with a wolf mask on? Yes! ‘Nuff said!

This piece was drawn using differnt kinds of ink on A5 paper. That’s all for now, but I hope I catch up to the present day soon.
