#Birdmas 2018 Day 5: 5 GOLDEN WINGS

On the fifth day of Birdmas ideas gave to me…

5 GOLDEN WIIIIINNNNGGSS
4 Hummingbirds,
3 Redshanks,
2 Frigate Birds,
…and A Fast Running Cassowary!

…And goodness gracious, hooray for day 5 because not only did I draw a Peregrine Falcon (Triwing’s mascot bird), but I also managed to get something to rhyme with the infamous line “5 Gold Rings”! The answer was staring me in the face all this time and I didn’t notice!

in 2016, I drew “5 Gold Starlings”…. 2017 was, “5 Gold Hatchlings”… day 5 is creatively the hardest to compose for me for sure.

Day 5 5 GOLDEN WINGS

5 GOLDEN WWWWWIIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGGSSSS!!!!

Anyway, onto this design. I wanted this to have a truly avian feel to it… and what do birds do better than anything else? Fly in the sky of course! I loved the idea of having a deep blue sky and clouds with a tiny hint of perspective to give the falcon some height and interest.

It was a bit difficult to get the gold just how I wanted it, and I could have even amended it even further, but for lack of time, it wouldn’t be sensible so I had to stop. Hope you all like this as always, and I once again thank you for stopping by.

Wondering what on earth this “#Birdmas” challenge is? It’s a challenge about drawing birds. Check out the club link for more info:

#Birdmas 2018 Day 3: 3 Redshanks

On the third day of Birdmas ideas gave to me…

3 Redshanks,
2 Frigate Birds,
…and A Fast Running Cassowary!

Now I’m beginning to slip behind for which I apologise…. but this is my day 3 bird, a Redshank. It’s a shorebird apparently.

Day 3 3 Redshanks

Suit you, Shank! Geddit…?

With this one, I wanted to add a bit of sass to the pose since when I looked at images of this species, I noticed they seem to stand very upright and stylishly. I found that fun, so why not play with it in my own way?

I also discreetly added the number 3 in the background to make this a number entry. I haven’t got much to add apart from that… I’m catching up. Please do bear with me, I do hope you enjoy nonetheless.

#Birdmas 2018 Day 2: 2 Frigate Birds

On the second day of Birdmas ideas gave to me…

2 Frigate Birds,
…and A Fast Running Cassowary!

Hello once again… so sorry for the delay in my entries… I want to be around for this as much as possible, but I still have a lot going on, and it takes more time to perfect my ideas for this challenge, so do bear with me. For those doing this challenge, you have my sincere thanks…. please keep the interaction and artwork going, we need it!

Day 2 2 Frigate Birds

KABOOMF! Make some NNNNOOOIIISSEEEE!!

This number method drawing is inspired by a species known as a Magnificent Frigate Bird. The male of the species has a red pouch around it’s neck which it inflates during mating season. After inflating the pouch, he shakes his wings and makes a rattling and drumming sound to attract overhead flying females.

There are 2 types of frigate bird, Maginificent Frigates, which have a green sheen on their feathers, and Great Frigates which have a more purple-ish sheen. Only males have the red pouch for both sub species, the female has a white belly. (Info from various sources).

I parodied the mating dance by having the phrase “KABOOMF” and some motion blur to make an impact in the piece, as always, I do hope you enjoy!

#Birdmas 2018 Day 1: A Fast Running Cassowary

On the first day of Birdmas ideas gave to me…

…A Fast Running Cassowary!

Hello all and welcome to a brand new Birdmas event! This is my first entry, a Southern Cassowary bird which seems to be like a turkey because it has wattles. The species is in fact part of the “ratite” group of birds, the same group as emus and ostriches. This particular bird is native to New Guinea as well as Australia. (All info sourced from Wikipedia)

Day 1 Fast Running Cassowary

Somehow I don’t think I’ll be eating this on Birdmas day…

This year, I have challenged myself within this challenge to do digital pieces… something I’m now regretting as I feel like this has been overdone even though this is a fun challenge. I got angry and impatient with myself and wanted more – not a good attitude to have, and I’m sure to have learned from this.

I’ll still try the digital route though… I haven’t done many digital pieces as of late, so you’ll be seeing this medium throughout this challenge hopefully. I do hope you like this. Cheers for stopping by!

Mr Birdmas and I are flying down south to a whole new platform on MeWe to give you all an exciting art challenge to try! Can YOU take it on?

Inspired by the song, “12 Days Of Christmas”, Birdmas is an event I invented back in 2016 and is all about drawing birds for 12 days! (officially from the 1st – 12th of December, but see below for details). Have great fun with creativity, commeradierie, friendship, chatter, and banter whilst we all draw feathered beauties! Please don’t worry about being perfect… anyone of any drawing ability can join in! See below for more info!

BIRDMAS RULES

Draw/paint/create birds for 12 days in December, ideally, a minimum of 1 piece each day. There are 3 ways you can do this (you can mix and match methods):

NUMBER METHOD. Draw/paint a bird each day next to the number of the day you are on (e.g, if you’re on the 1st day, draw a bird next to the number 1…. 2nd day, draw a bird next to the number 2).

QUANTITY METHOD. Draw/paint as many birds relating to the day you are on 1 sheet of paper (e.g 1 bird on day 1… 2 birds on day 2…. 5 birds on day 5 etc).

CUSTOM METHOD. If you find the above ways too challenging or you don’t understand them, you can just draw/paint 1 bird each day for 12 days in your own way.

DETAILS

Subject Matter: A bird or birds… (real or imaginative) or other concepts that include birds in it. Abstract birds are also allowed.

Time Frame / Deadline: OFFICIALLY it lasts from December 1st and ends after the 12th, but anytime in December is also fine.

Medium / Art tools: Anything that you can make artwork/images/designs with. 2D and 3D works are allowed. Photo manipulation is also allowed but NOT photography on it’s own. Feel free to be creative with what you can use!

Size and Surface: Any size at all. From tiny drawings to massive masterpieces. All sizes and surfaces are allowed.

Posting Places and Hashtags: Please hashtag ALL Birdmas entries by placing #Birdmas in your post description. You may also add your own hashtags, but that’s optional. Try and join our MeWe club and post there. That’s where it’s mainly happening.

PLEASE SHARE THIS AROUND. Shout it from the rooftops!! Tell everyone, even on other social media platforms if necessary! This is a fun event for anyone who’s interested!

Cheers!

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT – #BIRDMAS 2017 ART CHALLENGE!

LETS FILL DECEMBER WITH BIRDS! ALL CHALLENGERS WELCOME! STARTS 1ST DECEMBER 2017.

Yes… he’s back! Mr Birdmas has flown south this winter again to bring you all something fun to try!

Birdmas 2017 Poster

I’m inviting anyone at all to take part with me on this fun drawing, doodling, and painting challenge I’ve dubbed #Birdmas. It’s a challenge all about drawing or painting birds and is inspired by the Christmas carol ’12 days of Christmas’. The rules are simple and are as follows:

Draw/paint birds for 12 days in December. Minimum of 1 artwork for each day, but you can do more if you like. You can use ANY medium of your choice, and you can choose ANY bird(s) you like for each day, either real or made up. You don’t have to be detailed with your artwork! Each piece can be as basic or as detailed as you like, providing the subject is a bird. From doodles to final pieces, it doesn’t matter, just have fun with it!

Please tag your posts using #birdmas (in your description of each entry). It’s recommended that you use other additional tags, or even make a category, so that your work is more easily accessible to others, but this is optional.

It is advised that you don’t write the hashtag on your actual artwork… just in case you want to sell the work that you make!

You can draw/doodle/paint the birds in 3 ways. Either:

Number method Draw/paint a bird each day next to the number of the day you are on (e.g, if you’re on the 1st day, draw a bird next to the number 1…. 2nd day, draw a bird next to the number 2).

Quantity method Draw/paint as many birds relating to the day you are on 1 sheet of paper (e.g 1 bird on day 1… 2 birds on day 2…. 5 birds on day 5 etc).

Custom method If you find the above ways too challenging or you don’t understand them, you can just draw/paint 1 bird each day for 12 days in your own way.

Abstracts are allowed but they must hold at least some resemblance or connection to being a bird or having a bird form. Again, I really don’t mind if your pictures aren’t perfect, but unrelated abstracts or other artwork that feature no birds in them will not be accepted. Thank you for understanding.

You can only submit your own work for this challenge. Please do not submit anyone else’s work other than your own. If you did the work as a collaboration, please mention this in your description.

If you only want to share other people’s work just to share it, please be reasonable and ask them first, however it will not count as an entry. On another note, if you have posted work that you don’t want other people to share, you can click ‘disable reshares’ to stop others from sharing it that way.

Changes to these rules may happen at any time to improve the overall quality and fairness of this challenge.

As said previously, I have intentions to make a community for this challenge, hopefully I can give updates about that. If one is made, I’ll let you know, and you can post your entries there.

Please feel free to reshare this post around so people get a chance to see this and play along. If you don’t want to join or can’t join, that’s fine, you can just watch me do this challenge, but any challengers of any ability are highly welcome! I will be predominantly monitoring this on G+, however, please do let me know if you take part. It’ll be fun and interesting to see who joins!

That’s it! Feel free to leave comments or questions!

Remember, challenge officially starts on December 1st. Thanks kindly… Cheers all! Enjoy!
